2022 B SHARP SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION
FOR PIANO, VOICE, STRINGS, AND WINDS/BRASS/PERCUSSION
Saturday, March 5, 2022, at MWPAI
Winners Recital Sunday, April 3, 2022, at MWPAI
$1500 in Scholarships are available in each category.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
The Competition is open to any student currently enrolled in grades 9-12, who either resides in Oneida, Herkimer, or Madison County, or studies with a B Sharp member.
Applicants are given 10 minutes for their audition. If repertoire exceeds 10 minutes, the judge may ask contestants to stop and start at specific locations in the score.
Applicants must provide their own accompanist.
Applicants must furnish the adjudicator with piano scores of selections to be performed.
Students using illegally copied music will be disqualified. Accompanists may play from photocopies if two
copies of the original are present.Applicants may audition in more than one category and may compete as many times as they meet the
requirements. However, applicants auditioning on more than one instrument within the same instrument
family (i.e., flute, piccolo) will only be given one time slot, and will not be considered for multiple prizes.Prize winners from previous years may not repeat repertoire from the year in which they won.
PIANO: Pianists must play from memory two contrasting selections from different historical periods. All pieces must be original piano literature. No arrangements, simplifications, or concerti are allowed.
VOICE: Singers must perform from memory three contrasting selections from the classical repertoire, one of which must be in Italian and one in English. No show tunes are allowed.
STRINGS, WOODWINDS, BRASS, PERCUSSION: Instrumentalists must prepare two solo selections from different historical periods, contrasting in both style and tempo. Selections may be unaccompanied, but any work with composed accompaniment must be performed with accompaniment. Selections must be from the repertoire of the instrument. Memorization is encouraged but not required.
PLEASE NOTE: All prizes may not be awarded. The Competition is adjudicated by highly qualified judges from colleges and universities throughout New York State. The decisions of the judges are final.

Students from Oneida, Madison and Herkimer Counties,
or who study with a B Sharp member teacher from another county,
